Fluid
Model. Luisa Rüster
We as humans are more water than substance. Our life, everything we do, is fluid. From the first to the last breath, our life is like a long meandering river that can change direction any time. With our body’s movement we mirror this river. And when dancing we probably come closest to this establishing a connection with our surroundings.
In this highly experimental work Luisa and I tried to capture fluid movement and human connection with nature in static images. We created images with a double blur effect completely in-camera. The camera follows the movement, creating a visual representation that transcends reality and exposes the beauty of the moment. I wanted to juxtapose these expressive colorful images with something that embodies fluidity of a very different kind. To do this, I transferred the emulsion from Polaroid portraits onto handmade paper. When soaked in hot water, the stiff emulsion turns loose. It is endlessly transformable until it dries.
Both positions now complement each other in a silent visual dialog and speak in their own way about the fluidity of life.
